I’m absolutely thrilled to share that I’ve been accepted for an upcoming appointment at the renowned Mayo Clinic! This milestone is particularly meaningful to me as I’ve been struggling more recently to navigate all of the changes, unknowns, and fears brought on by my diagnosis. I’m hopeful this will steer me towards a more positive direction.
Why Mayo Clinic?
The Mayo Clinic’s exceptional reputation for assessing and treating rare and complex conditions made it a clear choice for me. Positive reviews from friends and family who have interacted with Mayo Clinic further reinforced my decision. After a thorough application process, I’m grateful for the opportunity to (hopefully!) gain a deeper understanding of my condition, hear an expert second opinion on the viability of surgery, and rule out autoimmune diseases.
It seemed as though most negative reviews are simply due to Mayo Clinic’s rejections to take on their cases; I have mixed feelings about how quickly I was accepted into the Mayo Clinic. On one hand, I’m relieved and grateful for the prompt attention and opportunity to address my concerns. On the other hand, the rapid process has also been somewhat overwhelming, highlighting the urgency and seriousness of my condition.
Appointment Details
The appointment is scheduled for Thursday, September 12 with the Department of Neurosurgery . I’m preparing by gathering a list of my medications and records, engaging in a pre-appointment phone interview, writing a list of objectives and questions, completing questionnaires, and planning the drive. I am eagerly looking forward to experiencing what the notorious Mayo Clinic has to offer me.
Personal Reflections
This appointment represents a significant step in my journey, and I’m filled with anticipation, excitement, and NERVES!!! It’s a chance to get a second opinion on surgery, seek answers, and receive thorough, holistic care. I am excited to be seen and treated as a whole patient rather than a set of MRI images or ‘rare case.’
